Avatar Jasmine IPA, Elysian Brewing (Seattle)

Avatar Jasmine IPA, by Elysian Brewing (Seattle)

5/11/2016 Review by James Fedewa

One of my all-time favorite IPA’s. It’s really two different beers; Serve very cold (nearly freezing), it’s a crisp, refreshing and a light IPA, that can be gulped. But serve just barely cold, around 60 degrees, it’s a unique tangy and sharp IPA with a light light floral (jasmine) undertone. Both cold and not very cold are so good and noticeably different. It better to have one large beer and take your time drinking it (all the way to the tasty last drop), or pour two beers and drink the first one slowly.  This IPA has a fruity smell, golden tone, with a very small head of foam. A traditional Euro IPA yeast is probably used (that offers a very unique and tangy aftertaste). Avatar Jasmine IPA falls into a very good traditional IPA (x2).

Grade: A- (this beer has been around for a while, and probably had an A+ grade 6 years ago. Anything from Elysian Brewing worth buying and I’m glad they are still brewing this one)

The NFL draft creeps closer and closer and rumors are swirling up everywhere. Tomorrows mock drafts will change, in fact, in 6 hours the mock will (might) change.

They say an artist’s work is never complete, so neither is a mock draft.     Do you FanDuel ?

Round 1

Player

Notes

1 Los Angeles(7-9) Jared Goff, QB, California California kid takes over for the Rams. Day one starter
2 Philadelphia (7-9) Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel and Carson Wentz? Why not! This is a QB driven league and you can’t have too many good things
3 San Diego (4-12) Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Mis San Diego had the worst pass-blocking grade in the league last season. Rivers is a little safer for the remainder of his career.
4 Dallas (4-12) Joey Bosa, DE/OLB, Ohio State Ramsey looks good & is tempting, but Bosa is the pick (and my personal favorite in the whole draft)
5 Jacksonville (5-11) Jalen Ramsey, S/CB, Florida State Tweener by position and experience (FS/CB) Elite track athlete. Will the Jags use him correctly?
6 Baltimore (5-11) DeForest Buckner, DE/DT, Oregon The Ravens need the dominate D again DeForest brings the D back to the Ravens
7 San Francisco (5-11) Paxton Lynch, QB, Memphis Chip gets a new toy to play with and Kaepernick wants out.
8 Cleveland (3-13) Laquon Treadwell, WR, Ole Miss Top WR prospect and a new weapon for RGIII. Great pick, but they were expecting Paxton Lynch to be available.
9 Tampa Bay (6-10) Vernon Hargreaves, CB, Florida Best cover corner in the draft
10 New York Giants (6-10) Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame Protecting Eli is probably the smartest choice
11 Chicago (6-10) Jack Conklin, OT, Michigan State The Bears do not have a left tackle on the roster, but a 5-tech DE would look great here too.
12 New Orleans (7-9) Shaq Lawson, DE. Clemson Saints need a defensive rebuild. Shaq is a great piece to put pressure on opposing QB’s.
13 Miami (5-11) Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State Blocking, receiving and rushing… he does it all (really really good)
14 Oakland (7-9) Myles Jack, LB, UCLA Knee injury and durabiltiy issues cause a slight slide & the Raiders couldn’t be happier. Will Reggie gamble? Del Rio will…
15 Tennessee (3-13) Leonard Floyd, OLB, Georgia Pass rush and versatility. Floyd can play ILB and OLB, so he could actually lead the team in sacks and tackles
16 Detroit (7-9) Taylor Decker, OT, Ohio State Decker can play both tackle positions and he excels in the run game (something DET needs a lot of help with)
17 Atlanta (8-8) Jonathan Bullard, DE, Florida Very strong D-Lineman. Can play inside and outside, the next Michael Bennett (one of my favorite players)
18 Indianapolis (8-8) Noah Spence, OLB, Eastern Kentucky One of the most talented pass rushers in the draft, but comes with some character issues.
19 Buffalo (8-8) Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville Sheldon slides a little bit, but he’s a perfect fit in Buffalo. The Ryan Brothers are both happy.
20 New York Jets (10-6) Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State Cook is better than you think and NYJ moves on from Fitz.
21 Washington (9-7) Jarran Reed, DT, Alabama Savvy and talented interior NT with good movement and eager to improve. Reed could also play 5-tech (so he’s versatile)
22 Houston (9-7) Corey Coleman, WR, Baylor Investing on Brock Lobster? Must supply with weapons
23 Minnesota (11-5) Josh Doctson WR, TCU Can catch anything and is an overachiever
24 Cincinnati (12-4) Robert Nkemdiche, DE/DT, Ole Miss Tons of talent, but a slight risk factor. He has Bengal written all over him.
25 Pittsburgh (10-6) William Jackson III, CB Houston NT is tempting but can be found later. WJIII can be a great CB and a good system fit
26 Seattle (10-6) Germain Ifedi, OT, Texas A&M Filling in the holes that free agency left the Seahawks (o-line help needed). Feels like James Carpenter 2.0.  DT could also be a target now that Mebane is gone.
27 Green Bay (10-6) Andrew Billings, DT, Baylor There’s a new bull in town. Billings is massive and takes over for BJ Raji.
28 Kansas City (11-5) Mackensie Alexander, CB, Clemson A bit of a slide for Alexander (eco maniac), but KC is happy with it. Sean Smith replacement.
New England* (12-4) — Pick Forfeited for Deflategate
29 Arizona (13-3) Reggie Ragland, ILB, Alabama Instant leader and big tackler, on an already powerful defense
30 Carolina (15-1) Eli Apple, CB, Ohio State Norman leaves, and finding a quick replacement means 1st round CB
31 Denver (12-4) Cody Whitehair, G, Kansas State ZBS – Denver lost 4 O-lineman in free agency and Whitehair can start the rebuild process

Notes

32 Cleveland (3-13) Kevin Dodd, DE, Clemson A new pass rushing OLB in Cleveland. Dodd has prototypical size for the position, but he’s a 1 year wonder.
33 Tennessee (3-13) Vernon Butler, DT, Louisiana Tech NT aren’t supposed to be this quick.
34 Dallas (4-12) Darron Lee, OLB, Ohio State His speed attracts Jerry Jones

36 Baltimore (5-11) Joshua Garnett, OG, Stanford Best guard prospect in the draft and helps improve the run game.

38 Jacksonville (5-11) Emmanuel Ogbah, DE, Oklahoma State Jax needs many pass rushers as they can get

40 New York Giants (6-10) Will Fuller, WR, Notre Dame Fast Fuller will make Eli’s stats look amazing. He’ll only need 2 or 3 balls per game, and he’ll get 7 or 8 TD’s year one.
41 Chicago (6-10) Chris Jones, DT, Mississippi St Chicago is looking for key pieces in converting completely to a 34. Great 5 tech DE prospect
42 Miami (5-11) Artie Burns, CB, Miami Doesn’t travel far from campus.
43 Tennessee (3-13) Hunter Henry, TE, Arkansas With all the new picks for the TItans, weapons for Marriota is a very good thing

60 New England (12-4) Kenneth Dixon, RB, Louisiana Tech very talented RB. Can do it all
61 New England (12-4) Tyler Boyd, WR, Pitt can play the slot, but might be taller than all the WR in New England
62 Carolina (15-1) Shon Coleman, OT, Auburn New Right tackle
63 Denver (12-4) Christian Hackenberg, QB, Penn State 5 Tech DE is the target here, but Denver gets their future signal caller here.

Appearance  4/5
Taste 4/5
Drinkablity 3/5
Aroma 5/5
Texture  4/5
Value ?
Nice foamy head with a light bronze tone. Wonderful piney-hoppy aroma (probably it’s best feature). Nice bitter piney front end with tight, higher-carbonation that gives the IPA a quick hop bite, then smooths out with a nice malty undertone. It’s a rich and flavorful IPA, in a classic IPA style. Not overly unique for an IPA but the smell and aroma is outstanding.

2016 NFL Mock Draft, 3 Full Rounds @JamFed (5.0)

***UPDATED MOCK DRAFT HERE (4/26): https://nationalfanatic.com/

4/16/2016 by James Fedewasf4aiai

Still shocked by the Rams / Titans trade on Thursday morning?

The trade was quite remarkable and both teams were greatly rewarded. The timing was a little odd, two weeks prior to the draft, as most blockbuster trades like this can happen the day of.  Yet, the newly located Los Angeles Rams are looking for publicity and the league couldn’t be happier.

The Rams head coach, Jeff Fisher, was surprisingly smug in interviews, like a kid who stole a candy bar and got away with it. He did not reveal who the Rams coveted with the trade, but that how we can speculate. Read the rest of this entry

#Chargers #3 Draft Pick (Trade Options, Value, Vets)

2/27/2016 – by James Fedewa

If the Chargers do trade their third overall pick, it will cost a very heavy price. Depending on who the Chargers trade partner is (determining the value of that #3 overall pick, including which prospect is targeted at #3) San Diego could receive an immense draft day payday.

Assuming the top three quarterbacks are the primary targets at #3 (Carson Wentz, Paxton Lynch and/or Jared Goff), many teams can be looking to trade up with San Diego to get San Diego’s pick. The list of quarterback needy teams include the Browns, 49ers, Eagles, Texans, Rams, Broncos, Jets, Saints, Bears, Bills and Cowboys. A couple other teams could be added to this list too… Read the rest of this entry

2016 NFL Draft, Quarterback Risers (mock draft busters)

[* I took another job last year and neglected my NFL blog in 2015.   On a positive note, I went back to my old job and now I actually have some free time to start writing again (because working 12 hours vs. 8 hours a day can starve a football hunger. And what a perfect time to return: NFL Draft Time]

2/12/16 – by James Fedewa

The NFL season wrapped up with the Denver Broncos winning Super Bowl Fifty.  Yeah, yuck… I know.  Denver has a great ____, blah blah blah (who cares). The season is over and every NFL team is tied again (but again, that is not what we are interested in).  What we are interested in is the 2016 NFL Draft Class.  There is no clear front runner with the number one overall selection. It could be one of three or four guys, all a mystery for now. And of course the top pick is apparently available for sale, again…

Lets briefly discuss the number one overall pick. The Tennessee Titans currently own it and they can draft a young star offensive tackle in Laremy Tunsil (Ole’ Miss), a junior three year starter. Or Tennessee can go with a sound and powerful defensive star with pass-rusher, defensive end Joey Bosa (Ohio State).  Or they can go with a flashy Defensive Back with world class athleticism in Jalen Ramsey (Florida State). All three are great prospects and can help the Titans immediately in 2016.  *Lop-Sided Note: The Titans have not drafted a defensive player in the first round since 2010.

The possibilities of who actually uses the first overall pick are wide open (projected trades included) especially with three notable, unpredictable and very green rookie quarterbacks slowly climbing up NFL draft board. These quarterbacks can completely change/bust every draft fans and columnists 2016 NFL mock draft.  Quarterback needy teams tend to buy (and spend a lot) on young QB’s prospects in the draft, but who is willing to spend / trade the most for one of these three quarterbacks?  (The top QB needy teams are: Browns, 49ers, Eagles, Texans, Rams, Broncos, Jets, Saints, Bears, Bills and Cowboys.  A couple other teams could be added to this list, but lets not continue to speculate.

When the 2016 NFL Combine begins, expect three quarterbacks to stand out and earn the draft-darling spotlight before the NFL Draft:  Carson Wentz (North Dakota State), Jared Goff (Cal) & Paxton Lynch (Memphis)

Carson Wentz comes from a smaller Division II school, as he was not heavily recruited out of high school (since he was a smaller kid). Wentz was a late bloomer and rendered into the prototypical size quarterback while in college. Standing 6’ 5” 230+ lbs. Wentz looks like a fast and very athletic version Ben Roethlisberger, with a cannon arm, surprising quickness (for a big man) and impressive experience (redshirt senior and 4 year starter). The 24 year old Wentz is more accurate than given credit for and if given an NFL quality receiving core, he can possibly light up the NFL. An NFL franchise can lean on this type of QB for 10+ years. Comparisons: Ben Roethlisberger (arm) and Cam Newton (legs)

Paxton Lynch is the former Memphis quarterback who bleads athleticism for a man of his size. Standing 6’ 7” 225 lbs. he is a big, extremely mobile and another prototypical bodied NFL caliber QB prospect. Lynch is similar in stature as Wentz, can stand tall in the pocket, but can also rush for a 10 yard first down. At 22 years old, the redshirt junior quarterback still very raw with tons of room to grow into a franchise QB, but Lynch should probably sit behind an NFL Vet and watch/learn for a season. Out of the top three QB prospects, Lynch might have the higher ceiling as a franchise quarterback, but he might have the lower floor.  Lynch moves like a tall wide receiver and throws lasers with major league velocity. He also look the part, with a charismatic leadership an NFL franchise love.  Comparisons: a combination of Ryan Tannehill and Mike Glennon (plus an NBA Small Forward mixed with Tony Stark).

Jared Goff is a savvy, pure passing QB that possess great pocket awareness with very good accuracy and intelligence.  Goff is a smart and safe passer that makes better decisions than most QB prospects, which probably makes him the top QB prospect this season.  The 21 year old, 6’ 4” 205 lbs. junior QB can become a very quick NFL game manager in the mold of Alex Smith, not making poor mistakes and adjusting to proper systematic reads.  Goff’s throws are impressive too, as he has great touch. Either a rainbow arch or a quick little bullet, he will place the ball exactly how it needs to be. Goff is the type of passer who can throw a football 40 yard into a basketball hoop. He also has some Philip Rivers in him with is impressive pocket awareness and great touch with his passes, but since he’s from Cal, you cannot help but think of another Aaron Rogers type. Goff might need some time to develop before given the reigns to an NFL franchise, but by midseason or 2017, he could be a fast-blooming young star (just ask any Cal Bears fan, they love him). Comparison: Philip Rivers, Alex Smith (and yes, Cade McNown).

Prediction: All three quarterbacks are selected in the top 10 picks, and two QB’s are taken in the top three overall picks (hence the mock draft buster, with unforeseeable trades)

Notable: Another quarterback prospect can also sneak into the first round: Connor Cook from Michigan State.

Game One, Week 1 and Chargers Won

9/15/2015 by James Fedewa091214_2244_ChargersSea1.jpg

Finally, NFL football fans get their first full week of NFL football this week. Thursday night football was full of ups and downs. Sunday morning football was very impressive, especially with the Seahawks loss to the Rams. But the Chargers afternoon football game was the pride of the day and the game to watch (better than the Eagles loss or the 49ers win Monday Nighters). Read the rest of this entry
