2019 Mock Draft (1.0) by James Fedewa
3/9/2019 – by James Fedewa @jamfed www.NationalFanatic.com
Why am I not that motivated about this years NFL Draft? For the last 26 years, I have been nothing less than an NFL crazed draft fanatic, but I guess this season has started a little late for me. Motivational inspirations are not what they once were since the demise of the San Diego football region. San Diego is a part of the whole NFL but L.A. move was not the solution. **So the Manny Machado thing might have swayed and changed inspirations a bit (for me). But, Chargers fans knew their fate years before the actual move…
Regardless to say, here is my first mock draft (1.0), which is NOT a masterpiece at all. I have already made four other NEW versions, so let’s call this mock drat a “pre-AB” (Antonio Brown destination). And I will also denote that I do not think Kyler Murray is a top tier NFL specimen. Sure, maybe a late first rounder, but not top half… (FTR: I had Josh Rosen as the #1 overall QB in 2018 – so the Cardinals are blind with this outcome):
Pick | Round 1 | Player | Notes |
1 | ARIZONA | Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma | Better prospect than Patrick Mahomes (in college), with Russell Wilson comparisons. Current NFL “HYPE” has Murray #1 overall, so I will buy in (for a little bit). In my opinion, he should go in the twenties. Size Matters. Josh Rosen gets traded for a 2nd and 4th round pick to NYG. |
2 | SAN FRANCISCO | Josh Allen, EDGE | Josh Allen is a true edge rusher and I like him better than Bosa. SF needs a true edge rusher more than anything. S.Thomas is a 3 tech DT and Armstead and Buckner are really 5 tech DE’s. 4th year in a row, SF drafts D-Lineman in the 1st round. |
3 | NEW YORK JETS | Nick Bosa, Edge, Ohio State | Nick Bosa looked a little stiff at the combine and I think his name gives him some false juice. Brother Joey Boas looked like a better prospect coming out of college, but both go #3 overall. NYJ has not had a quality edge rusher since Calvin Pace (10 sacks in 2013) |
4 | OAKLAND | Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama | IMO: Best player in the draft and can easily go #1 to Arizona (and should). |
5 | TAMPA BAY | Montez Sweat, EDGE, Mississippi State | Height / Weight / Speed guy with tremendous speed and upside for a edge guy. What ever happened with Noah Spence? |
6 | NEW YORK GIANTS | Rashan Gary, Edge, Michigan | Gary has versatility and can play inside or outside. Plus, O. Vernon was just traded, so pass rushers needed. I think NYG trades for Arizona’s QB Josh Rosen, so they do not draft a QB here (probably a 2nd round pick). |
7 | JACKSONVILLE | Dwayne Haskins, QB Ohio State | If Nick Foles does sign with JAX, it will not be a long-term gig. The Jags better have a backup plan. |
8 | DETROIT | Clelin Ferrell, Edge, Clemson | Ziggy Ansah replacement. Ferrell has a great JUMP off the ball. |
9 | BUFFALO | D.K. Metcalf, WR, Ole Miss | Who needs Antonio Brown when you have D.K? |
10 | DENVER | Drew Lock, QB, Missouri | Elway tries again |
11 | CINCINNATI | Devin White, ILB, Georgia | I do not like ILB’s in the first round, unless you run a 4.4 forty |
12 | GREEN BAY | Brian Burns, EDGE, Florida State | Packers get a pass rush specialist, and a good fit for a 3-4 OLB. His stock is rising fast with a very impressive combine. |
13 | MIAMI | Christian Wilkins, DL, Clemson | No QB worth taking here at #13, but Duke QB Daniel Jones might be worth the gamble here. Wilkins is just too good to pass up. |
14 | ATLANTA | Jonah Williams, OL, Alabama | Gan play OG or OT. Very versatile |
15 | WASHINGTON | T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa | Duel threat tight end (premier blocker and great receiving) |
16 | CAROLINA | Andre Dillard, OT, Washington State | Can play right tackle for a season, then could steal the left tackle job in a year |
17 | CLEVELAND | Greedy Williams, CB, LSU | Finding another WR could be nice, but finding another quality DB could improve this team even more. Look for OL and WR a little later. |
18 | MINNESOTA | Jawaan Taylor, OT, Florida | OL line depth and improvement is the most pressing need |
19 | TENNESSEE | Noah Fant, TE, Iowa | Getting younger and faster at the Tight End position is a need. D.Walker can’t play forever. |
20 | PITTSBURGH | Byron Murphy, CB, Washington | Zone CB = Check! Upgrade over Burns = CHECK! |
21 | SEATTLE | Ed Oliver, DL, Houston | Oliver slides a little, only because of his height. |
22 | BALTIMORE | N’Keal Harry WR Arizona State | The offence needs a big WR, even though this is a running team. He’s a WR1. Every year, the Ravens need WR and they bring in free agents and draft them, but they rarely stick. |
23 | HOUSTON | Cody Ford, OL, Oklahoma | Offensive line upgrades are a must. Keep Watson upright. |
24 | OAKLAND (via Chicago) | Marquise Brown, WR, OKLAHOMA | Hollywood Brown’s injury might be a concern, but if healthy, he can get drafted sooner. Raiders can make this gamble for this playmaker. |
25 | PHILADELPHIA | Deandre Baker, CB, Georgia | WR could be a target here, but Philly needs some upgrades at CB. |
26 | INDIANAPOLIS | Amani Oruwariye, CB, Penn State | Strong safety could be a good fit here, maybe even a RB or WR. |
27 | OAKLAND (via Dallas) | Jaylon Ferguson, Edge, LOUISIANA TECH | Ferguson has some baggage, but if Bosa and Josh Allen are gone with #2 and #3, Raiders can find their edge guy here. Ferguson is a sack artist |
28 | LOS ANGELES CHARGERS | Dexter Lawrence, DL, Clemson | If the Charges are going to run a 7 DB package, they better draft some beef up front. Three DT’s could be gone: Liuget, Philon and Mebane are all free agents |
29 | KANSAS CITY | Johnathan Abram, S, Mississippi State | SS Eric Berry is consistently hurt and KC needs to groom his replacement |
30 | GREEN BAY (via New Orleans) | Mack Wilson, ILB, Alabama | Day one starter at ILB – yes both of the Packers 1st round picks are on defense. |
31 | LOS ANGELES RAMS | Garrett Bradbury, C, North Carolina State | Interior O-line needs help now |
32 | NEW ENGLAND | Daniel Jones, QB, Duke | Tom Brady’s replacement (Finally) |

Ugh, not thrilled with Williams @17. Would prefer a DT
Ed Oliver or Dexter Lawrence would be available. I do like Oliver, but he’s a little undersized 3-Tech (currently occupied by Larry Ogunjobi). Lawrence is a zero technique and could actually slide out of the first round. Not many zero tech DT’s go in the 1st round. I think Greedy Williams would compliment the whole Cleveland secondary.
